Easy Toddler Jewelry DIY

Crafts, DIY

I’ve been on a big Sculpey kick lately. Here’s a simple tutorial for making cute and simple “kid jewelry” with the polymer clay. These bracelets make a great rainy day project and could also be sweet additions to birthday party gift bags.

What you’ll need:

Sculpey (or Premo or Fimo etc.)
Bead Reamer
Knife or razor blade
Elastic cord

Preheat your oven to 275.
Using a knife or razor blade, cut ~1/4″ slices of the clay from whatever colors you want to use for your beads. I went with a pastel scheme.

Once you’ve cut all the colors you want, knead and roll the chunks into little “snakes”.

Once you’ve made all your snakes, gently roll them together on a flat surface, into a larger snake (worm, tube, unicorn horn, whatever).FullSizeRender-3

Using your knife, cut the snake (because that’s the appropriate thing to do with any snake, clay-snake or snake-snake) into chunks, similar in size. Mine were about 3/4 of an inch. FullSizeRender-11

Then you’ll have lots of pretty little chunks. These remind me of erasers. One time at summer camp I got dared to eat an eraser that looked something like this. I actually swallowed it and it was terrible. Very rubbery. I honestly have no idea why I swallowed it. Sometimes badass-ery comes at a price, you guys. FullSizeRender-4

Then, using your hands, roll the chunks into the roundest little beads you can.T

Using your bead reamer, carefully make a hole through each of the beads.FullSizeRender-10

Once you’ve made holes in all of the beads, put them on something you can bake them on. I have this little foamy thing that came with a Sculpey kit I bought, but I think you could probably use a baking sheet and it work just as well. FullSizeRender-6

Once your beads are fully cooked (about 30 minutes), let them cool and string them together on the elastic cord. Tie it, knot it, and cut the ends. And that’s it!

Here’s the bracelet on a sweet baby-but-almost-not-a-baby-anymore arm. She approves!
